Secret Diary of a Glitter Kiss Student
I’m 38 years old, need to exercise but hate the gym, and somehow even though I love
dancing, I’m not motivated enough to do online routines and things like Zumba just
didn’t work for me. So, what’s the alternative?
I came across Glitter Kiss Studio a couple of years back, and it looked like the students
were having a good time in the photos, but there was something holding me back. I was
worried I wouldn’t enjoy it, that I would make a fool of myself, or just that going to
something like this on my own I would feel so awkward and out of place. So, I didn’t go
any further than having a look at the website gallery. Making myself a little more
miserable with every photo.
Fastforward to May 2024 and everything just fell into place. I was feeling so lonely,
bored and in need of social interaction, and after a brief discussion with my cousin at a
wedding about how much fun Burlesque looks, I joined up that week! It was the best
decision I’d made in so long!
From the moment I walked in the door, the atmosphere was nothing like I expected. It
was bubbly and welcoming, and no-one made me feel awkward like I thought they
might. I learned part of a burlesque routine, with a warm up and cool down, and
laughed so much at the array of different conversations that happened throughout the
hour class. I feel like I found my people!
After the first 3 weeks of doing 1 class a week, I added in their Awaken class as well
(affectionately named ‘evil bendy stretchiness’) as I had always wanted to try and get
into the splits my whole life. In a few short weeks, my mental health and my posture
was in a better condition to before I started. I’m also 5 months into stretch class and
I’m closer to the splits than I ever thought I’d be!
Since my first class 6 months ago, I have performed on stage as part of a troupe, and
created my own solo act! But while I’ve loved and embraced my need for attention and
taking my clothes off in front of other students (they were there consensually to see my
act, it’s not a requirement), I look at those around me and appreciate that we’re all on
our own journey. There are students who need social contact, those who want to build
self-confidence, and those who dip in and out as and when time allows. We’re all here
for our own reasons, but at the end of the day, we all leave empowered.
Hopefully as time goes on, you’ll hear about their stories and why they wouldn’t be
without Glitter Kiss Studio. Until then, if you haven’t experienced a Burlesque show yet,
you really need to get yourself to The Terrace in Falkirk for High Ginxxx (Glitter Kiss
Studio’s sister company) presents Merry Kissmass on 7th December 2024. Professional
performances and access to XOXO afterwards, Christmas nights out have never been
so good! Tickets available on the website.
In the words of Lady Glitter Kiss....Life’s shitter without some Glitter!
